Forum:
ok here's the problem.
when i put the steering in full lock, left or right, i hear a squealing noise, like something touches the fan belt, or any other moving rubber (or maybe not rubber?) item under the bonnet (sorry i know nothing about engines etc)
it also sometimes happens when moving slowly in 1st gear or reverse, not even steering to full lock. basically itll jam (not let me turn any further) and make that squeeling noise, until i move the wheel back a bit then try turning it again.
at first i thought it was just the wheels catching on the body of the car cos id over steered it or something, but it even makes this noise when im not moving.
hmmm any ideas?
Power steering
These often squeel on full lock but I am surprised it should happen at other times and that it should in effect lock. Assuming you are not reversing in 4wd, most causes of noise other than on full lock are caused by insufficient fluid in the system, so check the level in the resevoir. If it is very low thenn check for leaks and top up. Keep a close eye on the level to ensure that it isn't dissappearing and if it is then investigate further.
