Hi what turbo is best for a Daihatsu Charade 1.6i GSXI .. ((TURBO))...??????

Forum:

Can i put a Turbo in my Daihatsu Charade 1.6i GSXI. and how hard would it be to fit it and what one would be the best one to buy please help thank you very much .

Well anything can be done

Well anything can be done depending on time and budget. Best turbo is totally depenadnat on what other mods you are intendning to do and how you want the car to drive. a Samll turvbo will spin up early and goive low end boost but may run out of puff at the top end. A more expensive roller beariong turbo will spin up even faster. A larger turbo can shift morre air and give lots more power but then can cuase other problerms that need solving like lack of boost at low rpm and the need for much better cooling, intercoolers. You'll certainly need a new ECU.

Thanks man

Well thats sounds good ive seen a turbo on the net for around 500 pound i dont want a meaga fats one no need but a ok one would do great would i be able to fix coz my car didnt come with a turbo so i will need a lot of manafolves(spelling)
and a ECU ..?? how much is that coz theres no point me spending 3,000's when i coulds buy a car with a turbo..
as my car only cost me 490 bucks lol and ive fixed it right up .

500 quid is only the

500 quid is only the begining...then there is the ECU and sensors, set of low compression pistons or cylinder-head, exhaust and inlet manifold, wastegate, exhaust system, cooling system, intercooler, oil cooler, workshop/rolling road time and insurance.

So add at least £1K and you have a start budget...then you will probably have to add some mods to the suspension and brakes...which might mean larger wheels and tyres so best make it 2K as a start budget

If you are REALLY serious then strip the body to bare metal and seam weld and strengthen it before you start, so your initial budget will be £5-7K this is where WRC car start...before you even get to the mechanical bits...

If you are only tuning to get the same performance as the factory install it hardly seems worth the effort/expense and would be easier to achieve by either an ecu reprofile/chipping or a cam swap and ecu reprogramming session on a rolling road.

Most factory Turbo installs tend to be more to do with emission control than performance enhancement, agreed there is some improvement to performance but it is at a level which the engine will reliably produce for 100,000's of miles; it is not normally the mind shattering blast to the horizon that you are probably aiming for with 500 quid.

To get that costs ££££££'s and needs lots of skill to control and costs as much again in regular maintenance, tyre replacement etc. Make a few enquiries on the cost of servicing a high performance car and it will be in excess of £300-800 every 10-12K miles. I would guess that your current ride could be dealer serviced for about £150.

Performance costs...high performance really costs...

You can pick up aa half

You can pick up aa half decent turbo for £200 and something like the Greddy E Manage as an ECU for a similar amount but fitting and mapping will be the same again or more so £800 so far and you've not event had a customer manifold made to mount the turbo or upgraded the cooling system or fitted and intercooler.

Go on bbs.daihard.org as its been done before and these guys will know best.

1.6 Turbo

There are endless things you can do to any motor, all depending on your time and budget.

There is a guy here in aus who had a 1.6 that had been extensively worked to put out 350hp at the wheels, yes you read it right 350hp

Unfortunately charade gearboxes dont like this much and he blew up 3 custom dog gear sets before deciding to put a honda 1.8 vtec in it, which should be good for 550hp and no gearbox problems
