Forum:
Hi there, since my friend borrowed my fourtrak and put used veg oil in its been running awful, the turbo no longer kicks in, it looses revs instead of pulling, could this be the fuel filter caked up? How do i change the filter? do i unbolt it from the wing to change it?
Sounds very likely.
Sounds very likely. Certainly a good place to start anyway. The filter is held in place by a long bolt running through the centre of it. The head of the bolt is right at the bottom of the filter asembly. Once this is undone the filter will drop off. Be aware that it will be full of fuel. Your new filter should come with some rubber seals. It will be fairly self evident where these go (replacing the ones already there). Fill the new filter with clean fuel and reasemble. Prime the system by pumping the ruber ball on top of the filter assembly, there will be a blead niple (next to the hand primer if memory serves...) to alow the air out. You may now be able to start her up with no more intervention now with a bit of cranking while holding the trotel at about a third to half open. If she starts like this hold the throtel at about 2000 rpm until she runs smooth for about 30 seconds continuas, then let engine idle for a minuet or so more. This should ensure all air is out of the system. If after trying to turn over for a min she doesn't even try to chuckel you will need to crack off each injector line in turn at the injector end, and hand prim until fuel squirts out of the cracked off union with little to no air acompanying it. retighten each union befor moving to the next. Once you've done this go back to turning over engine with trotel part way down.
