Forum:
Howdy!
I'm here in the USA and just imported a 1982 LD10 Toyota Blizzard (Daihatsu Scat) from Australia. I'm looking to do a light restoration on it and I'm looking for some OEM parts. Since so few Blizzards were made I'm hoping to get some Daihatsu parts. This is the only hardtop model in North America so there are zero parts here.
I'm looking for interior parts like seats, headliner, air vent knobs, shifter knobs, door panels, door handles, door lock knobs, outer door handles. Outside I'm looking for turn signal lenses and an original rear bumper with lights.
This is a longshot but I'd love to find an original set of emblems and graphics on the outside. They look cheesy as hell but I think they're the best part. Going to do a re-paint soon and want it back to original.
Any help would be great. My email addy is john@charitywines (dot) com. (hopefully writing it this way will keep the spammers away)
Cheers!
John
Hi John, As I have found
Hi John,
As I have found there are some guys on here who have a lot of knowledge about the F20/F50/scats, I have only recently got mine so I am still trying to catch up. I was going to ask if you had seen the following thread, http://forum.ih8mud.com/ma-nh-yankee-toys/191891-blizzard-coming-not-snow-related.html which I saw a while ago but looking at the user names its obvious that you have. Yours looks like a very smart little truck, the interior looks to have a few extras over the basic Scat but not quite the same additions as the Daihatsu deluxe model. There is a guy restoring a Daihatsu deluxe model on this thread, http://www.daihatsu4x4.eu/viewtopic.php?t=494 . The guys there will also happily answer questions in English if your Dutch is a bit rusty. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much available in the way of spare parts here, generally it is a case of aquiring a 'spares' truck and watching ebay for any thing that comes up. I may be able to help you out with some of the door bits you are after as I got a few doors the other day as part of a job lot of parts I bought. I will have a look through what I have got and see what kind of condition it is in. The genuine lens covers are not easy to get hold of, there was one on ebay here a couple of months ago but most of the Daihatsu's I have seen have had this swapped for something else.
Some of the mechanical parts on the Scat seem to be basically the same as the Fourtrak (Rocky in the US I think) or at least can be made to fit so may help extend its life. If you want new springs there a couple of manufacturers in Austraila that still make them, dobinsins springs is one and lovells springs is the other that I know of. With regards to stuff from Austraila you may find it is also worth looking at the outerlimits4x4 forum which is based there. To see the Daihatsu section of that forum you will need to register.
Good luck with the restoration.
Regards,
Steve

Most interior components were interchangeable between the F10/20/50, such items as door panels trims need to be made from scratch, make a template on 3mm (1/8") thick plywood, cover with fabric and glue on.
Many mechanical parts weree from the Toyota parts bin, the engine is a 12R, this was used in many commercial vehicles.
Best options for many parts are the Toyota specialists, take along the worn mechanical component and they should match it for you, mechanicals were in production for many years in various guises.
Body panels are a no no, anything will have to be made, my F20 had its entire back end made by hand, took me a lot of time to do, but well worth the effort, they never came from the factory that good.
Such things as bearings, oil seals, UJ's, etc can be sourced from their numbers, or matched from their dimensions, while most other parts will have to be made.
Good luck with it.
