i just brought some new 2 inch extended shackles from blood red but im having a bastard of a time fitting them plus i dont know where i would get new bushes for them or can i use the old ones but my biggest problem is removeing the old shackles the fuckers wont budge a inch do i have to jack the axle up to take the weight and jack the back of the truck as well i need to get this sorted by saturday has im off to wales any advice would be apprecieted yes im trying to lift a sporttrak l reg
Yes you will need to play
Yes you will need to play around with the jacking up of the chassis. I would leave the wheels on the ground though, rather than jacking the axle. You need to get the bolts so they have no load on them either from carrying the car, or from the hanging axle. However I wouldn't be suprised if even this does not help, as they are probably corroded in. In which case burning them out may be the only solution. As for replacments, your local main deeler should be the quickest. Someone like Millner Off Road would probably be cheaper. Also try your local motor-factor. Unipart for eg.

Shackled To Suspension
Nev.K is correct, i lift the vehicle and place two large axle stands under the chassis, this supports the vehicles weight, put my trolley jack under the axle to alter its position.
Cutting off the shackles is often the only answer, use a small angle grinder if you have one and cut it into small pieces as corrosion affects the nuts, and the rubber bushes in the eye of the spring.
Replace with Poly bushes from Milners, these can be greased or have washing up liquid applied to help reassemble.
lifty
The other guys know what they are talkin about, there are two types of shackle - the easy peasy and the absolute asshole, lol, i always leave the wheels on when i do shackle jobs, plenty of jacks and stands on the chassis etc to ease it away from the axle, you might have to take the whole leaf off to get the bushes out if stuck cos they need a press to squash them out, depends on what bushes you got, but replace with polybushes anyway, err if you are in america then i would have thought procomp would be easier for you on the bush front. good luck - i used a small thin grinding disc on the last ones that i done.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
