Forum:
Hi all, hope you don't mind, i'm not a Diahatsu owner myself but this is on behalf of my sister. Last night she had her Fourtrack stolen! And as the local police have jumped into action and done nothing to find it, i was hoping you guys and girls could keep an eye out for it for her please?
The car is a 1994 Diahatsu Fourtrack TDX Independant (L241 HVS) in white with silver decals, grey interior and a black spare wheel cover with a stags head in white on it. It has a tow bar and black bull bars fitted.
It was stolen from Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire 01.30ish last night and we think was probably taken out of the area for breaking or a quick sale?
If you could keep your eyes out for it or if you are offered a cheap Fourtrack matching the description we would love to know. It has been her beloved workhorse for a long time and she is very upset at losing it.
Thanks for your time.
All the best
Barry.
Stolen Vehicles
Thefts of Fourtrak's are on the increase, as are other older 4X4's, these are targetted for many reasons:
Older vehicles have no, or poorer quality alarm systems and are easier to remove quickly and quietly.
Many are stolen for breaking due to the increasing scarcity of some components, and Fourtraks have very few marked components fitted to them.
Many vehicles are stolen to order, these are usually exported, on mass, to third world countries who ask no questions; they are thankful of reliable, simple workhorses.
Numbers are stolen for criminal activities such as ram raiding, being a durable vehicle, they are easily reversed through modern buildings, loaded, and driven away. Many are used for other thefts such as hitching up to plant trailers with items such as mini diggers on them, it would be less conspicuous seeing a rugged workhorse 4X4 towing a plant trailer.
Ringing, this is where the vehicle has its identity altered to a supposed legitimate vehicle, and sold to an unsuspecting customer. Anyone sold a "ringer" or stolen vehicle will have it confiscated by the Police, and they lose their money. Due to their age, and lower value, many Fourtrak purchasers will not use many of the vehicle checking services available.
A stark warning too us all, ensure we have good alarms and immobilisers fitted, and wherever possible, put them in a garage, or at the very least, behind good sturdy lockable gates.
Pikeys ?
Funny how many 4traks you see on Pikey sites.
..... and if they're all legally owned, my name is Raquel Welch !

Funny that...she just had a site of 'travelling people' move in just down the road. Some of whom had been working on the rail line behind her house the night before. Funny how most right thinking people would suspect there could be a link? The Police however don't. Too much like hard work?
Hello Raquel Welch
The pikeys vehicles are all legally owned, taxed, and insured; because the police are often too frightened to enter their sites to check the vehicles and caravans.
Surprisingly; when they do, they find the stolen caravans and ringer vehicles outnumber the legitimate ones.
One resident in Derbys had the right idea, it did involve 10 gallons of unleaded and was extremely effective.

I have to eat some humble pie! The police have found it, looks as if i may have under estimated them. It was found in Knebworth this evening (not too far from a travellers site) and she has been told it's in good condition apart from a damaged lock and ignition.
Two good things have come from this, my sister has her car back and the police have more respect from us.
Good work!
It seems that the police's
It seems that the police's idea of "good condition" is not the same as ours! EVERYTHING that could be removed from the car is gone, all the seats damaged, nearly every body panel is damaged, rear bumper and light guards damaged. And the strangest thing, it was full of hardcore/rubble?
Even the recovery vehicle driver said "sorry this is the worst i've seen in a while, they've gone to town on this one"
So looks like there'll be some cheap parts on the market soon!
