tow bar

Forum:

hi ya folks its me again.I decided to wire a plug on my sporty as there was a tow ball on it when I bought it but no electrics. It had drop plate on it which didnt look that good owing to small bolts holding it on to bracket on rear cross member. Now I've got it off the bolt holes in bracket are only about 10 mm the drop plate sits up over a lip at the top so doesn't sit right they seem to be half a hole out anyway. The bracket looks to be factory job, so the question is do I have to get a manufacturers plate or is it a case of make 1 to fit it?there also dont look like there is enough room in gap for a plug mounting plate is this another case of getting tools out and making it fit.Still keep me out of mischief wont it.

You would need to get, or make a new drop plate; to make one acquire some 12mm thick plate of the required size, drill a series of holes to the hole centres required and fit new bolts.

Holes should be drilled 14mm diameter, and M12 bolts (12mm) should be fitted, use a grade 8.8 bolt, this should say 8.8 on the head of the bolt. These bolts are a medium tensile bolt, stronger than a normal black bolt, but not as strong as high tensile bolts, these will not snap as high tensile bolts might under a sudden shock loading.
