Forum:
I have a whinning noise from my 92 fourtrack tdx. Its there when i change through the gears but if you keep a constant speed its less noticable, any ideas?? my thoughts was that it might be like a thrust bearing in gearbox cause it goes when clutch is depressed.
Whinning
Does sound as if it may be a dry thrust bearing or alternatively wear in the rear diff. Try with the enginge running dipping the clutch and then reengaging. If the thrust bearing has dried you will get your whine whilst stationery with the pedal out and it will stop with it depressed.
Rear diffs tend to get worse on overrun andcan be quite above say 40. Mine has whined for years, uses no oil and I have tightened the nut behind the UJ but not a lot of difference.
