F55 smoking engine block/crank breather tube...

Forum:

Um, I have an F55 with a 2.8 diesel which smokes and drips small amounts of oil from engine block (crank case?) breather tube.

One suggestion was that the engine (rings) are tired, another is that I have used the wrong grade of oil...

It doesn't affect engine operation at all (as far as i know LoL) but is a bit of a piss off when sitting in traffic. Oil coming from tube really is just a centimetre radius stain on ground after standing overnight.

breather

if you don't care about the motor Jam a length of 1/2 inch polypipe over the breather and send it out the back, twin exhausts.

it could run like that for another 10 years if you are careful. keep the revs under 3000. I have 3 F55s one is my farm ute and has been blowing smoke out the breather since i got it 5 years ago its done 15000km like that. I just try to keep the revs down. I broke a piston in half through the rod hole on my other ute from reving its head off in sand dunes.

your motor will probably need new pistons rings and liners at a minimum. The liners seem to wear at the same rate if not quicker that the rings and they have probably lost all their honing cross hatching. If you fix that before it starts to break rings and pistons you can save the rest of the motor as well.

do a compression test, at the least you will know if all the pots are just worn out or if there is a only a problem in one cylinder.

have fun

Just an aside, I belive an F5

Just an aside, I belive an F55 with a 2.8 in it is called an F65. These were only built as a test bed for the new engine. As fare as I'm awar only 2 were imported into the UK, one terbo, and one normaly asperated. Of course building your own would be very easy, as it's the same block anyway.
