Hi there, just bought a 1991 sportrak EXLi and the battery's gone flat (before I got home) not loose belt (shame) but some screaming which could be brushes? Any places to get a refurbished alternator or other solution?
Other issue is the electric window - opens ok, won't close. You can hear the motor working away, but it doesn't move the window - any ideas on fixing?

Two belts.
There are two belts - alternator and water pump. One belt is hidden below the visble upper belt. You certain you checked the alternator belt?

thanks Mace - I noticed it wasn't the easiest to get at! I checked the tension on the right one - it seemed to be fine.
Now when I jump start the car the volt meter is up in the good zone again - I don't know whether that means an intermittent fault, or that it only went out when I had lights, wipers etc etc on yesterday in the foul weather.
At no point did the charge light come on.
Looks like I've probably got a blown head gasket too for my trouble - must say thanks to the man who sold it.
