Any cold start tips. My rocky always started first time in the summer but is now taking 2 or 3 mighty turns to start.(Much white and then black smoke) Someone said not to use supermarket diesel but to use BP super diesel.
Or should I use a fuel additive

you are correct that supermarket diesel is not the best, but hell, unless you are driving a performance car no one will notice the difference, esp not in a fourtrak.....lol you certainly do not need additive.
Check you glow plugs...sounds like you are down a plug....only replace with bosch, do not buy cheap rubbish, you will save money in the long run.

as engineer on board a fishing vessel we were asked to try out a additive into our lube oil every oil change,some vessels were saving £100 a trip on fuel costs and it is supposed to ease wear and make the engine start easier, ive tried some in the fourtrak just as it was free and have noticed no difference not that ive ever had bother in starting but as for fuel it is unnoticable the theory of it sounds good but taking in to account we are burning 3500ltrs of fuel a trip on the boat the saving in a car would be unnoticable,i know the fuel additives are different but just thought i'd share my story with u. like the above post i'd be trying somthing else first before fuel additives but will keep an eye on forum just to see other comments on them, hope you get it sorted.

The problem with diesel is thay removed the sulpher with lubricates the pump,this is why pumps dont last as long as they did. the best thing you can add is rapeseed oil. a 1% blend with mineral diesel will increase lubricity by 65% this dose not smell the best mix is a 50/50 blend smells like doughnut factory + you can always tell the powers that be and pay 16p per Lts duty still only costs 35 quid to fill tank with duty

Hi,
Thanks for your help,you were right. The problem was glow plugs only two were working.
I hade my first cold start since repair yesterday morning (-1d)and almost wet myself it started so quickly.
