Non running Fourtrak - 2.8TD SWB - any ideas please?

Forum:

Hi,

Im looking to buy a Daihatsu 2.8TD SWB (H'reg) for off roading. My friend had one for many years and recommended them to me for their torque, strength and good 4x4 ability.

Anyway, I've found one for sale, but the owner said its a non-runner when they brought it, and the person they brought it off, said it had a fuel leak or a blocked injector and previously was a superb runner. Anyway, the current owner found a fractured fuel line, and promptly replaced it, but still no joy from the engine.

Like me they are not mechanics, and run a small building company, which the Fourtrak was meant to be apart of to tow trailers etc.... So the fuel line didnt bring the truck back to life so they've no time or patient to fix it hence why they wanna sell it again to free up space.

Thats where I come in. Im hoping there isnt anything major wrong with it, so I can spend bare min. and coupled with a manual and some advice I can get it back on the road or at least on the mud.... ha ha

The last thing I wanna do is buy it, and the next thing it needs a new engine or turbo etc.... this truck is going very cheap, because they just want shot of it.

So Im hopiong someone on here can advise me on what the possibility's of why the car is not running? So I can assess my interest in this particular car.

Basically, apart from the obvious, dead battery and other such medial issues, is there anything that could cause this engine to be a non-runner, any Daihatsu problems I should look out for?

Any help and guidance would be appreciative....

Many thanks,

Shaun

it could be as simple as

it could be as simple as running with the fractured fuel line has emptied the fuel filter and injection pump of fuel and when replacing the fuel line they didnt bleed the air out of the fuel pump, filter and injectors,

make sure the cam belt is still in one piece.
