Hi my first post on the forum, can anyone please help with a question I have? Looking at getting a 98 2.8 TDL this week end, but am concerned that there is oil around the intercooler pipe work, as the Turbo looks oil cooled to me dose it mean the Turbo has had it? And if it has how much dose it cost to put right? A quick reply would help!!!

It's difficult to say without seeing the amount of oil that is around the pipes but i wouldn't be to worried as most turbos blow a bit of oil into the pipe work. As long as your not trailing clouds of blue smoke behind you and you don't have oil dripping from the exhaust it should be okay. It does make a good bargaining point though, being able to say the turbo is starting to leak.
The turbo is oil lubricated rather than cooled.

I will have another look and take a pipe off to see if it has a excessive amount off oil in, or is just a “bit blowing out†around the pipes, she seems to be running ok, “sounds sweet as a nut†with 123000m on the clock what else do I have to check for apart from the usual things, (timing belt was changed at 94000m)
