Fuel Consumption

Hi Folks

Just bought a basic early 1.6 EL Sportrak and am getting sligthly under 30mpg from it after a steady run at 50 - 70 mph which seems a bit low, anyone know the official figures and most likely cause of high consumption, done 109,000 miles but no smoke and runs fine

Sorry, I'm not sure what the officail consumption figures are, but I get (from my '95 Sportrak 1.6 16v injection (nearly 70k miles), yours i think would be the carb. version) about 28mpg on average. On a run I've had as bad as 24mpg, and the best is about 31mpg (steady 70ish!)

A steady 50-70mph i'd hav thought would give a bit more than 30, but not sure as you've got a slightly different engine. The first thing that comes to mind is that the carbs may be able to be tuned better, but i'm sure someone who knows more will soo speak up!

Speeding?

Worst you've had is 24mpg? You've not been a norty boy and doing 90+ have you? As thats about the average from when i've done that speed on the Motorway (M69).

The carb I think does have very similar fuel consumption. The carb engine does have more of a flat spot at around 3,000-3,500 revs which would be roughly around 50mph in 5th gear? So would account for the carb engine probably using slightly more fuel.

Thanks, sounds like its not too bad then, will give it a basic check over anyway and see what happens
