i cant believe i did it put 10 quids of unleaded in my fuel tank before i noticed filled up with another 30 quid of diesel and keeping my fingers crossed .done 50 od miles so far and no strange noise or lack of power is it going to die or is it going to be ok any advice out there
Unleaded not Diesel.
Quite a common error if you run a car and a Dieael 4x4.
The unleaded fuel will dilute the lubricating properties of the Diesel fuel and could cause more rapid wear. Since you have added more diesel before driving it then this would have been reduced but could still cause you problems. Deisels rely on the oil to lubricte the cylinders and this makes them more robust and often smokey. Unleaded will wash this lubrication off. Personally. I would drain the tank and refill with Diesel rather than risk an expensive engine rebuild which will be more than the lost fuel. The lost fuel can always be used to wash parts off over some years but you will kick yourself if you ruin an engine for £30 or so. Apart from that is it worth the worry of something happening for £30?
I don't have a diesel so am not an expert on them and I'm sure diesel owners may disagree with me and may say that it will clean out the jets, which it will, I just wouldn't take the risk.

Mixed for freezing.
Petrol can be added to diesel. In severe cold the addition of petrol stops diesel waxing - waxing cause diesels to stop running in a freeze up - the diesel clogs/waxes inside the pipes. Most diesel fuel contains an additive to help stop any waxing but in very cold weather diesels do wax. [If you have central heating fueled by oil, the oil flow waxes in frost and its not uncommon for the boiler to stop working due to loss of fuel flow]
In past days commercial drivers added petrol to diesel for winter driving. A mix 1petrol to 4diesel was often used.
So if your worried run the fuel down and often top up with diesel. The £10/£30 mix is probably about a 1/4 mixture.

your lucky i filled mine right up, got about 10 miles b4 it stopped, had to syphon the lot out and refill with diesel.
but its never run better since, must of cleaned it out.
we used to run petrol mix in artics in winter as somone else on site said, anyway i wouldnt worry about it just keep topping up with derv if your worried you could always put some upper cylinder lube in ie Redex but wouldnt think it will do any harm , when i did it was over 18 months ago and had no problems.
