Forum:
ok so i removed my petrol tank and had to drill every damn bolt out as they were rusted up.
now i have six bolt shafts and the associated nuts welded to the underside of the body still.
it seem impossible to grind them off due to their position and i wont be able to remove the bolts and retap as they too far gone.
all i can see i can do is make new holes and reposition the tank maybe half an inch to the left or right, or smash the old remnants of the bolts with a hammer until the welds break, leaving me with fresh holes.
has anyone had this problem before? its just a bit of a nightmare as everything is rusted up!
petrol tank
hi paul
can you not get a small dremil or such tool in and grind them that way then drill and tap the buggers
looking at your pictures it is difficult to see where it is meant to go but on my fourtrak it took a dremil and a few hours of cutting with tiny blades to get them out i put them in the other way round and nylocked the thing in place
i wouldnt smash them off even if i moved the tank might weaken the metal around them too much so you are going to have to shift them somehow just depends how much work you want to do ...........good luck

welded nuts
No experience of this particular problem, but in a similar situation I just drilled out the welded nuts to the next size up,drilled the part that needed fitting and used longer bolts with nylock nuts.(I borrowed a attachment to fit my drill with a right angled/chuck thingy). Hope this helps.
