Fourtrak Four Wheel Drive

Forum:

I have problem with the four-wheel drive on my fourtrak, the light won't illuminate when i push the 4h button, and if i put the 4L stick in gear and get underneith i can turn the front propshaft by hand, surely this should be locked in place when in gear, shouldn't it? any suggestions/help would be much appreciated. Thanks Sam

you should have a large nut

you should have a large nut to turn on each front wheel,in the centre of the wheel, this locks the hub, on our rocky we have the instructions to do this on the inside waist rail of the drivers door.

Automatic hubs

I have that on my old fourtrak but it's covered over on this one so i think that they're automatic

I have the same problem with

I have the same problem with mine, on mine one of the autolocking hubs is not working in this instance the drive to the good side is diverted all to the side that doesn't work, therefore you only 2wd. Bad news is I have been told by Daihatsu that you can only buy the whole hub which is £280 plus the dreaded VAT.
So good luck mate.

I loves it in the mud I do.

firstly its not the hubs at

firstly its not the hubs at fault if the light won't come on, as said its the vacuum arrangement that activates it. Secondly Milner off road do a pair of hubs though manual as a kit for the Independant thats approx £150 so a lot cheaper than daihatsu

Auto hubs

If you have auto hubs when you engage the 4h the front prop will turn a few turns to engage the hub. if it turns more than this then you may have a problem.

cheers

thank you i will look into this when i get home

solenoid valves

i have the same problem, the system works off a vacuum, ull see a pipe going down towards the gearbox that goes into 2 valves, you could have a problen with that system weather it be the valves, vacuum side or electrical like mine. the wires are so brittle. GOOD LUCK! and let us know the outcome

on my 1988 F75 when i push

on my 1988 F75 when i push the 4H button with the hubs locked up I get 4wd I can hear the relay going and underneath hear the actuator , and when i put the transfer lever into low box I get 4wd low. I don`t get the 4WD light illuminating though. is this likely to be a blown bulb??
