Eibach spring kit on YRV turbo.. Was it worth it?

Forum:

I am looking at having the Eibach kit fitted on my YRV turbo at the Daihatsu Delaership.

Questions to those who've had it fitted:

Was it worth it? and does it make any difference when cornering?

Thanks.

Jon.

Don't know as I've not done it, the ride is bone jarring enough thanks!

The Turbo already has lowered springs over the regular YRV's, do we know what make they are?

AFAIK, the lowering for UK spec Turbos was done by Daihatsu UK - we already know that the rear anti roll bar and exhausts are unique to the Turbo, but I can't help but wonder where they got the spring from as it would be ironic if the were supplied by Eibach already! Biggrin

Didn't know they wre already lowered...........

Didn't know they were already lowered Scratch one-s head . I thought Daihatsu offered an after market lowering kit for the YRV Turbo? Scratch one-s head Read on here somewhere that it was an Eibach kit? If it is the case that the lowering kit is already on, then may look at getting them replaced, as they appear to be rubbish. Shok

springs

As far as i'm aware they are Eibach Springs as standard but they are just stiffened and not lowered. You can get kits which will lower to a max of 25mm which i assume would make very little difference as 25mm is a very small reduction

Can anyone recommend a good replacement to the suspension?

If the YRV turbo130 already has the Eibachs fitted as standard, then what would be a good replacement? Does Daihatsu dealerships offer a different suspension upgrade package? Who's had what done to their suspension to make it better to handle?

Given the limitations of a

Given the limitations of a tall, narrow FWD hatchback with skinny tyres and no traction control, what are you hoping to improve, specifically? Wink

Sometimes new springs can make things worse! Biggrin

Handling.....

Trying to improve handling Smile . At the moment decided on the lowered springs to start with so then I know what type of alloy and tyre package to get.

Any suggestions welcome. Wink

Wider Tyres

I had 195 tyres on mine but I can't say I noticed any improvement.
I was about to go back to the originals but I sold it first.

Handling......

What is it about the handling that you want to improve, body roll? understeer?

There are different solutions to each problem.

Understeer mostly.....

The understeer mostly, as we all know the YRV isn't renowned for it's handling capabilities around corners. What I'm hoping for is to improve this, and I was under the impression lowering the suspension would help here. I also have a D-Sport front strutbrace on it's way, so this too will be fitted.

Understeer

Dropping the ride height and widening the rubber and the traditional answers to understeer, but I worry that the predictable understeer is replaced with something much less predictable!

When next replacing the front tyres, I'm considering fitting 185 or 195 rubber on the front only! If it worked for Citroen to fit wider tyres at the front, then it should work for Daihatsu. Wink

I'm more concerned by the bouncy, bump steer that the turbo suffers from, that will be very difficult to eliminate.

Thanks YRV130.......

I am looking at fatter tyres later on, as I still have Bridgestone RE030's on the back and new Dunlop Sports on the front. Feel as though the tyre wall on the Bridgestones are a little soft me thinks.

Thanks for all the replies

I think I have my mind made up now and will look at purchasing the Lowering Kit on the next service interval.

Any other suggestions?

Been scouring the the forums with the search function, and noticed that someone has posted that he had the Eibcah upgrade by the dealership as well as some whitline arbs.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
