Forum:
I bought these.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290207989005&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=019 for my SWB Fieldman that doesn't have them as standard.
When I plug the volt meter into the connection on the dash it doesn't work (with ignition switched on). When I connect it directly to a battery it does work. There is 12 volts at the volt meter connection on the dash!!!
Any ideas?
TIA
re voltmeter
Hi check that you have power going to the back,if theres power check the earth i had a broken earth wire made a new earth and jobsagooun
Volt Meter
The voltmeter has two wires, 1 + Positive and 1 - Negative. with the ign. on check that there is current on the + @12v and that the earth connection is sound. If you are unsure of the earth or - connection take a piece of wire from the metal of the car body to the - terminal. If the meter works then you have a break in the earth connection.

There's more to this issue
There's more to this issue than just a broken wire. I did exactly the same as you and bought a second hand volt meter to put in my Fieldman. Unfortunately I haven't sussed the problem yet, but it seems that the wiring plug on the car is just not compatible with the meter. Yes it physically fits together, but the wires seem to be crossed - on different terminals or something (if you see what I mean).
I'm tempted to cut the connector block off and just connect the wires directly to the meter but I can't help thinking there must be a good reason why they are different. I just don't want to knacker or burn out something elsewhere.
If anybody has come up with a solution to this, I would also like to know.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
