hi all just wonderd if anyone new if i may have a serious problem brewing as when i startup my 92 fourtrack deisel i get a puff of whitish smoke then normal running i have checked the oil levels they are normal the water is going down only slightly but i have a tiny leak on top of the rad there is no white or brown scum in the oil , so any ideas peeps

WHITE SMOKE
I suspect the puff of white smoke is in fact condensation. On start up, the hot gases from the engine condensate within the cold exhaust and are then emitted as steam until all the water/condensation has evaporated. It is more obvious on cold mornings and in the winter and is normal on all vehicles.

Smoker's cough !
I guess the turbo is getting a bit old and is leaking a drop of oil into the inlet manifold.
Eventually it will fail the MOT on smoke, but that's a long time in the future.

Surely oil would be blue rather than white?

It will be totally normal.
It will be totally normal. On very cold mornings, diesel exhaust shows as whiteish blue smoke. It will quickly turn to standard black when the engine heats up.
