Hiya just bought a 1997 sporty but clutch is extremely snappy and was wondering if it can be adjusted or does it sound like its worn or is it normal, any suggestions gratefully received. thanks in advance.

Yes it should be adjustable, look on the bulkhead where the cable comes through, just behind the clutch pedal, there is a sleeve with grooves machined into it, and a spring clip.
Pull the spring clip from the grooves and adjust by pulling the cable in or out, then push the clip back.

That having been said (by assasin) when I came to adjust the cable on my M reg Sporti I found that the spring clip method had been somehow lost. Mine had a big plastic hand opperated 'nut' near the bell housing end of the cable. No idea why this should be though (but I'm guessing a non standard, it'll do job by some previouse owner) as every other Daihatu 4x4 I've ever had dealings with (and there have been a few) have worked by the spring clip around the cable...

Nut Adjusters
Nev is quite right, aftermarket replacement nut type adjusters were available for many vehicles with spring type adjusters. many were fitted many years ago, but are rarely seen these days, thank You Nev for jogging my memory.
