My Modded YRV Turbo

Forum:

Hi guys, new here!I am from South Africa.

Mods:
2006 Daihatsu YRV Turbo - 134kw(+-175hp) & 241nm @ 1 bar
Custom 57mm downpipe and freeflow
Unichip
Custom CAI
Boostcooler(50% water/meth)
35mm Tein springs
15" black SSW Sting rims
15.1s 1/4mile

I want to up the boost passed 1 bar, I am running water/meth injection and I will run a higher octane fuel as well probabl close to 102. The question is will the motor handle 1.2-1.4bar?

Hello, Very nice example.

Hello,

Very nice example. Just had the Tein lowering kit fitted to my YRV Turbo today and what a difference they make. The car is more planted and goes around corners even on 175 tyres without mishap.

One question, where did you get the Chip from?

Thanks! The Tein kit is very good, it does make a big difference, I am riding on 195/50's rubber. The Unichip comes from South Africa so there are alot of tuners here, I did my at MACE Performace here in Cape Town. You are in the UK right? There should be a tuner there I am sure. I have read about a few that were Unichipped in Europe(Portugal and Holland).

Hi, Yes I am from the U.K.

Hi,

Yes I am from the U.K. but believe it or not there are a lot of tuners here in the U.K but to tune the YRV Turbo130 (The slightly de-tuned Japanese version (130 BHP)) is very hard to do in the U.K. If you own other cars such as VW, Subaru, Vauxhall (GM OPEL) or Ford, then the worlds your oyster to have your car tuned. Here in the U.K the YRV turbo didn't sell in great numbers so not many people are aware of them. The Car only went into production where I am from 2003 to 2005, and you don't see many of them about. Sad

Uprated parts for the YRV turbo are also hard to get hold of as well, mostly you end up importing them or finding very select places to buy sport parts.
For example the TEIN springs were a special order from Japan.

Yes we have the same problem

Yes we have the same problem here, not many YRV Turbo's around, that is why I went for the Unichip because the tuner(well the one I went too) can check and test which wire he can connect it to, mostly there is a harness for cars that want to use the unichip but there wasn't any for the YRV.

Can you tell me or find out for me how strong these car's conrods are? I want to boost here higher so just want to make sure if she can handle it? Do you know where I can get uprated conrods if they aren't strong enough?

At least you found somewhere

At least you found somewhere who can tune the YRV. Smile

As for conrods, then I'm afraid I don't know. I take it you know that the engine is the k3-vet? Looking at your specs getting 175bhp out of your 1.3 Litre is an achievement with the stock internals. I know that some Toyota Starlet 1.3 turbos can be tuned well past 200BHP with their stock internals, but couldn't vouch for the YRV.

Intercooler - Audi A4

For the guys who don't want to go FMIC, I fitted a A4 intercooler, much bigger than OEM and better flowing.

BROODWA!!!!

Seen your car in SA before all the heavier mods... must be loads of fun now!
Must be awesome showing up the vtecs, toyboys and (most) sr20-owners in the kaap! lol...
The Broodwa has quite a rep! 14.8seconds quartermile - nice!
For those who don't speak afrikaans, its "breadvan" or "breadwagon", and is the official (?) nickname for Volvarine's YRV Turbo...

heavy!

Is the gearbox going to survive that kind of torque? What sort of launches do you do?

I do the left foot on the brake and give it a little gas, turbo spools up to 0.5 bar and revs to 2000rpms, and let it rip(well she isn't lightning of the mark though), the trick is not to hold it longer than +-5 seconds, don't want the torque converter to overheat, I only do this at race meets, I put in new gearbox oil...castrol transmax Z seems to be a very good oil, some guys here said the box was changing smoother after putting it in so hopefully it will protect better. On the other hand torque isn't immediate, I think if she was manual, clutches wouldn't last long. I also feed the power, I can't put my foot down...I am getting too much wheel spin.

Now your just making me

Now your just making me jealous Wink Does the A4 Intercooler just replaces the Daihatsu like for like, or are there any modifications need doing first?
