sportrak mods?????

Forum:

Does any one know of any mods that can be done to a sportrak to improve the power for off roading????? has anyone ever put a different engine for example and if so what????

Engine Swaps

Toyota engine fitted to your Sportrak, so an engine swap is not as daunting as may be originally thought.
Check out the engine numbers and later variants of your engine, these were essentially updated engines given a similar or differing engine number.

Working from memory, so check it out before swapping; the F20 had a 12R 1600 petrol fitted, this was fitted to the HI-Lux pick up also, later hi-lux's had an 18R 1.8Litre, and a 20R 2.0 Litre engine fitted.
Basically these were all the same engine with only slight ancillary alterations, and only required the bellhousing and engine mountings changing to fit the F20.
One of these engines, forget which one, was updated and called the 3Y, and fitted into the Sportrak, and was updated again.
All these engines were fitted in the Toyota van range, so cross reference engine numbers with these.

As can be seen, the updated versions of each of these engines are available, it is a matter of researching and finding the information.

The 3Y is the engine out of

The 3Y is the engine out of the F80/85 (4trak). Is this from the same block as the Sporti engine? Be intresting if it is, as I was thinking of putting one in my Sporti if/when I blow up the 1600. Haven't looked to closely at similarities though as it is only an idea, with no 'need to do' yet.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Without checking my data, i cannot answer that at this time.
Many of the engines were similar, generally they were used in several vehicles, you generally find that the 4X4 and van engines are the same unit, the same unit may also be used in cars. In the van and 4X4 applications they have the same designation, but in the cars, they have a different designation code.
Engines used in cars are more powerful, but the same engine in a commercial is detuned, with less power, but a lower end and flatter torque curve.
