M-reg Fieldman Independant query

Forum:

Hi there,
I recently got my 'new' M-reg Fourtrak home as a replacement for my J-reg trak which was unfortunately dying on its feet.Could someone shed some light on a few questions for me (...its only my 2nd one so don't know much about 'em yet...).The interior seems a bit more spartanic (no inclinometer, no Voltage meter) and the overall shape seems to be different. What are the main differences to a J-reg TDX and could I still use some of the spares on my new one and also what are the tyre sizes I could put on without having to doctor the wheel base (might consider wheel spacers though...)I know lots to ask for but I am genuinely confused about these details.Thank you

The interior will be lower spek as it's a Fieldman (comercial). However the centre dasch clocks your on about are eisy to fit from your old girl. There will be a blank cover over where they fit. This can be levered off with a flate blat screw driver.
The only dioffrence in the shape is the flairy wheel arches. Any othe body parts you have (eg, bonmnet, doors, etc) will fit it.
The big diffrence is in suspention. The newer one is indipendent toursion bar on the front, and coil sprung on the back. The trak is also wider. So any drive train after the transfure box you have will be of no use. The engine and gear / transfure box however are prety much identical.
I put 31/10.50-15's on my Fieldman without doing more than winding the front suspention up untill the front stood level with the back (wheelarch hight from the top of the tyre) as the rear, and bending the front mud flapes a little to get them out of the way. It did rub on full lock, but only just.
I would not fit wheel spacers, as they add fare too much unneccesary stress to the wheel barings. Better to invest in wider wheels (more off set (7 or 8 J's)). Mine was quite happy on the 'standard' pepper pot / tear drop alloy Indipendent wheels.

31/10.5/15 tyres

How much more ground clearance can you get just by fiting 31 10.5 15 tyres?

Half the diffrence in hight between 31's (31 inches) and what she's on now.
