Off road/towing capabilities of Sportrak versus Fourtrak

Forum:

How does the Sportrak bear up in userbility versus the older Fourtrak in terms of off road capabilities and towing (for a horse trailer)?

Sportrak Towing

The Sportrak makes a poor tow vehicle as the engine has very little torque at low revs. Fourtrak far far better

GO SPORTY!

Quite right, sportys are crap for towing big stuff. Mine does OK, but I wouldn't want to tow a horse trailer with it! Biggrin

As for off road.. the smaller the better! My sporty on 30" RMT Tires will drive around the hiluxs and landrovers every time. Wicked.

Would agree that if towing

Would agree that if towing is your main concern, and your going to be doing quite a lot of it, get the 4trak. However the Sporti will tow quite nicely if you don't mind taking your time. I used to tow an F50 on a trailer (combined weight approx 2.25 Metric) with an old carbed Sporti, and she couped fine. Even tow started another F50 accross a feild, tied to the rear of the loaded trailer once. In high range too. She was on 215/15 tyres, which helped. Smaller wheels alow lower gearing, which will make towing eisier. Especially with an engine which is designed to deliver it's power further up the rev. range.
That all said of course the 4trak is the better tow vehicle.
As for off road. I'd put them about equel over all. Though the 4trak will get over bigger obsticals (standard car), and the Sporti will get through tighter spaces. All comes down to what type of off roading your planning on doing?
