Fuel Filter removal

Forum:

Hi people, quick question...

1996 Fourtrak Fieldman

I've removed my fuel filter before just to check it and that time it came off fine. No corrosion or anything. This was two or three months ago.

However now I have a replacement and I can't get the original off.
As you look at it from standing over the engine bay I assume i'm twisting clockwise, is that right? Thought it was but started to doubt myself as it wasn't budgeing.

If it is the right way i'll just force it more, just didn't want to do that in case it tightend it more.

thanks,

matt

whichever way you stand over it, it has a right hand thread so turning it clockwise will tighten it even more, so to undo it you turn it anti clockwise. When you replace it do not overtighten as its a right bugger to get off as you have found!. I do mine hand tight plus another half turn and it has not leaked yet, this also applies to the oil filter.
good luck!

Of course if your looking

Of course if your looking down on the top of the filter, and 'looking at the wronge end', it will appear from your perspective to need to turn clockwise.

Suggestion

When installing the new filter it might be prudent to smear the top of the rubber seal with engine oil, this will ensure it does not stick to the housing at its next change.
