Fourtrak brakes

Forum:

I have a 91 long wheelbase fourtrak that I cant get a decent brake on. There is no visable leaks in the system. Pads and shoes in good condition and shoes properly ajusted. I have blead the brakes with the assistance of my son pumping the pedal for me starting with furthist brake from the master cylinder etc. The system has a p valve(proportioning valve)not a p&b valve or a ssp valve fitted. I tried the bleed nipple on the p valve and got nothing from the bleed nipple.(fluid or air). The brales slow you down but will not lock up. If you stand on the pedal very hard it will go to the floor very slowly. Can anyone tell me what the fault is

Brakes, lack of

Hi.

I would suggest the seals in the Master Cylinder, are allowing fluid to leak past, brakes are one thing I always get regular repair man to work on.

I agree with Ews about the master cylinder.
I would also say though that you should get something out of that valve you spok of. Is the nipple blocked? Try cleaning with a pin or pipe cleaner? Or crack off more so fluid can come round the nipple instead of through it. Not ideal, but at least you'd know the fluid was there. As I recall you need the person pumping to be quit vigorous with the break peddel when bleading this valve, as you have to overcome the internal spring in order to get fluid to the nipple.
