ive found a sportrak but worried about a couple of things

Forum:

hi all , wonder if you can help me .

ive found a sporty which is solid underneath and the 4wd works fine but on driving it , it has a slight clonk on full left hand lock. is this easy fixed?

2nd problem , the clutch is biting at the very top of the pedal but he told me it was replaced 20k miles ago with the gearbox .any idea why it would be biting so high?

many thanks patch

The 'clonk' could be one of

The 'clonk' could be one of several things, which would have variouse amounts of expence / time involved in fixing. E.g. warn CV, destroyed wish bone bush(s), play in track rod ends.

As for the clutch, it could just be badly adjusted. Have a look where the clutch cable comes out of the bulkhead into the engine bay. There should be a sucsesion of gruves around the cable. One of these should have a circlip around it. This may just need moving to a diffrent groove to adjust the bite point to where you want it.

The clonk may be...

...simply a worn-out anti-roll bar rubber, in the chassis clip! Our Sportrak does the same when on full lock in BOTH directions, and my friendly MoT man showed me the problem. No longer am I worried - it's a tuppeny job...

Problems

Nev has covered most things, but check the clutch plate is fitted the correct way around, these are designed to be handed and are marked. Usually it will say flywheel side on it.
