Fan Rigged for constant running

Forum:

Hi, I was talking to a guy recently who used to own a Hijet, and he reckoned that he rigged up the fan to run constantly, in view of the good ol' overheating problem.

Has anyone else heard of this, and what do you think- Good or
Bad idea?

In theory a good idea,

In theory a good idea, in practise a bad idea.
Some electric motors are not designed for constant running and will overheat and maybe either burn out or even burn up!!
You could still rig it up direct wired but put a switch on the dash so you can control it. Was going to do that to my former Charade GTti that got hot quick when sat in traffic. Infact might do that at some point to my YRV Turbo Smile

constant running fan

Hi, I agree with your comments on a constant running fan.

I am thinking that a 2-speed fan might be a better bet- low speed
rigged to the sensor & high speed with a manual switch.
Obviously Daihatsu don't make a 2-speed, so I am looking for
alternatives from other manufacturers, for instance some Golfs
have 2-speed fans. I am going to check out the dimensions to
see if any of these will fit on the Hijet.
Will let you know what luck (if any) I have.
