YRV Turbo Trouble When Changing 3rd-4th

When accelerating from 3rd-4th once i hit about 4000rpm the car revs drop off and jar jumps then accelerates again. Have tried it using manual over ride and same problem. Seems very weird, ~Thinking might be lembada sensor,
any ideas?

free flow exhaust

has no one ever posted about this before? I have searched for months trying for a solution. Just seems stupid paying out for a performance exhaust (even tho they r cheaper than standard ones) if they reduce the performance. I found a device months back that made the lambda sensor sit further back reducing the flow of gases. Like a big spacer it was on am a american site, but can't find it any more.

Do you still have the standard exhaust on the car?

Only reason I ask is that I went from the standard exhaust to a Blitz and ever since the car overboosts due to the free flowing exhaust system which causes something similar.

that is probably the problem then, I had a blitz then sold it then built my own form parts from jetex to make it twin exit again. Bit of a bummer must be away round it some how,

Its over boosting due to

Its over boosting due to the reduced exhaust back pressure. I have the same problem with my custom stainless.
The only cure is to bypass the existing sensor, get an electronic boost controler and they are not cheap too.

I have the same problem

I also have the same problem of over boosting due to a custom stainless exhaust. Time for a remap perhaps?

A remap would sort this out, but it's finding someone/where who can map the ECU in the Turbo. As you know Bigperformance.co.uk have come back to me in the past and said it can be done and from the remap you should see another 20BHP, but at over £400 and for me a 400 mile trip to Surrey.... Well you know the rest. I have tried local tuners in my area and non of them will touch it Sad

Thanks Volvarine. Unfortunately here in the U.K Daihatsu is a bit of a small brand name and unlike bigger makes such as Toyota, VW, AUDI, BMW, Subaru etc.. the YRV and Sirion is a small seller here and not much take up for tuning on them. There is one Garage in the U.K who will tune my car but it's a bit of a trek to get it done.
Believe it or not the YRV Turbo here wasn't sold in great numbers and was only manufactured between 2003 to Beginning of 2005 and we only got it in the 130BHP factor due to U.K laws on Emissions and fuel rating we use. In Japan where the Fuel rating is 100RON the cars are 140BHP in standard form, but as it's a Japanese car the tuning scene over there is better than ours. So at the moment to get anything done with these in the U.K is shall we say a bit of a challenge? Especially as a lot of manufacturers in this country will not help us too much as there isn't much of a profit to make. Sad

I have the same problem

I have the same problem here, not many sold and very few want to mod them. Luckily I found a tuner that was prepared to do it and it was trail and error all the way but if a tuner near you fits Unichips to other cars he can do it too the YRV Turbo, they have the tools to test where to connect the wires up like the boost, injectors, tempurature etc. because other cars that are popular tunning cars have looms that plug into the Unichip already. I will speak to my tuner and ask him if there is away I can send you a diagram or something of how to connect YRV Turbo's ECU up to a unichip.

I had the same problem when I changed my exhaust, the unichip sorted it out for me. It happened to me in all the gears

One of the tuning shops here

One of the tuning shops here in SA fitted and tuned it for me. The Unichip is manufactored by a local company called Dastek but it is distributed to the world though. I am sure there must be somebody in the UK that could fit it?
