Hi,
I have just replaced the drawbar on my M reg Daihatsu GLX 2.8 independent Turbo Fourtrak Due to bad corrosion,On replacing the towing socket it was found that nearly every terminal on the 7 pin towing socket had 2 wires attached and as only 1 brake light and 1 side light was working when i bought the vehicle i will have to replace the rear wiring.
What are all these wires for as the DVD Manual does not give any colour coding for the wiring and if some of these wires are disconnected from each other other lights stop working or lights come on that should not be on.
This is a real Headache,Can any reader tell me how these wires should be correctly installed for the correct operation of the fourtraks lights and most importantly the trailer socket.

It goes as 1 yellow, 2 blue, 3 white, 4 red,5 brown,6 red ,7 black. fog lamp red and brown.The numbers are on the 7 pin socket hope this helps mick49

Towing Socket
Hi,
The problem is not at the towing socket but the wiring loom that goes though the drawbar to the towing socket,There appears to be a wiring loom linking the back two light units together and entering the towing socket,Appears the loom as been cut and wires from both directions wired into socket from L/H Light and R/H light.
Wires are different colour codes from both sides hense problem.

Sounds like your going to be spending a lot of time with the multimeter working that one out. It might be eisier to start again from scratch. I have done this on more than one vehicle. Go right back to where the rear wiering heades off from the front of the car (once the stuff like handbreak warning switches and such have finished branching off). Cheack that all power for lights is comming through to here. Then build a new wiering harness. It's not that hard if you use normal 7 core trailer wiering (plus one mor for the reversing lights). Basicly wiere the rear lights as if wiering a trailer, and then continue into the towing socket as the last stop. The only thing to make things a little sticky is the earth switch set up on the rear fog. I'm not sur if the later Indies were still done this way, but if it is, rewire the dash switch to make it switched live for eise of instalation at the rear end.

Fourtrak Wiring Loom

I discoverd that a seperate wiring harness goes to left and right rear lights at the rear of my TDX Turbo Fourtrak,Both wiring looms are joined together with a loom across the rear of the vehicle which supplies the towing socket,Different couloured wires from each light unit.
I solved the problem by ripping out the rear wiring loom and just leaving the left and right wiring loom,Towing socket was then wired up to each rear light unit using scotch blocks as used when wiring up a normal car towing socket,This is much more simple and straight forward now and if i light stops working just check the scotch blocks,Lights now all work fine with no problems,Hope this may help other fourtrak owners with a similiar problem.
