Fuel Pump

Forum:

HI, just bought a 1992 carb 1.6 Sportrak, very pleased with it overall, except when I got it home then went to move it it started to blow oil all over the engine bay!
Turns out it was coming from a small hole in the fuel pump, which I think may be a breather hole?
It is toward the base of the unit and faces the front of the truck.
I shoved a screw in it which stopped it up temporarily, but do I need a new fuel pump?
If so, where can I get one from? (Dont want second hand, as I thried a scrap one and it did the same thing!)

Check the crankcase breather system

I don't know about the specific Sportrak fuel pump, but Ford Escort / Sierra mechanical fuel pumps have a hole in the bottom to allow air in / out to allow the internal diaphragm to change volume (ie pump) - it needs the hole.

Again I don't know about the specific Sportrak pump, but if it's a mechanical (engine driven) pump, and it's blowing out oil, it sounds like the crankcase breather system isn't working.

you are right but the

you are right but the diaphragm has split I would guess which is allowing the oil to be pumped out.
The hole is a breather but for the moment it is plugged!
Thanks for your response, the crank breather was blocked, but it could vent somewhere else, so not that - think the pump just went U/S

crank case breather

can anyone direct me to the crank case breather?
I have cleared the one on the rocker cover but am wondering if there is another as the fuel pump is still blowing oil out, and it is a new fuel pump
