Is it only when (or worse

Is it only when (or worse when) cornering? Most likely culpret will be a dodgy CV joint in one of the front drive shafts.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Clicketly Click

Power on and power off clicks, tend to indicate propshaft U/J wear. As the slack is taken up, a click comes from within the needle bearings of the joint. In your case it seems to related to the front prop shaft. Give them a good grease!!!!!. Other possibilities are the C/V joints in the front hubs or problems with the Auto front Hubs themselves.

Clicking in 4WD

On my Fourtrak the clicking sound is coming from the front prop shaft - there is excessive play in the UJ's and splined shaft.

Rotating shaft...

On the Fourtrak (not sure about Sportrak) the front prop shaft only rotates if either the front hubs are engaged or the transfer box is in 4H or 4L.
