Whats that noise - fourtrak gearbox

Forum:

Ive had my 93 tdl fieldman since june and its always had this noise - in fact it had it for the 3 years the previous owner had it too and before (he only did about 8k in 3 years though) - hard to describe, the box functions ok but you can hear a scraping noise for want of a better description - a bit like a chisel on an oilstone - its more pronounced on load of accelleration and overrun - and you can almost lose it with a sweet spot with the slightest of press of the gas pedal. obviously its only when in gear and moving!!

any ideas?

leave it till it goes? well known problem? easy fix?? search for a box now??

any help appreciated
cheers

chris

might be able to record it if it helps lol!

Hi.

Q- When was the last oil changes in the gearbox's and what grade of oil are you using.

Q- When you last changed the (main box) gear oil, was a copper/bronze sheen on the surface of the drained oil, any debris present.

could it have anything to do

could it have anything to do with the warning note on page MT-26 of the manual?
if it's been there for 3 years is it possible the previous owner f##'d it up?

Hi

Looking at this post and the section in the manual, it may be worth checking if the previous owners of the truck had any gearbox work carried out, perhaps a long shot!!!!.
