Hi.

Land Rover wheels will not fit, beware fitting wheels from other brands of 4x4 because of insurance obligations, better to seek out aftermarket types. Q- why go for 16" wheels ,plenty of choices for fitment to 15" also you will loose out on the tyre to chassis clearance, less steering lock. I run a '92 leaf sprung ,Fourtrak shod with 31 X 10.5 x 15.s on standard rims.

Hi thanks for your comments.

re 16 inch, trying to get more clearence when off roading, must admit the turning circle bit is an
issue to think about

you could acheive the same

you could acheive the same by fitting bigger tyres on the 15's - the 31x 10.5's do great - the speedo appears to be bang on compared to a sat nav rather than having any 'spare' in it like most vehicles have so its through the gatso's carefully.

yours being a leaf sprung fourtrak means you have plenty of options to get more clearance too

Fit aftermarket types, or stick with the original 15" alloys or steels.

Moving up to 16" reduces the sidewall height due to the lower profilr tyre necessary to maintain the correct rolling radius for correct speedo operation. Reduced sidewall heights are now popular with soft roader manufacturers to improve handling, but are prone to offering the rim less protection as there is less tyre to flex, and a lower height between the tread and terrain.

This is problematic for vehicles used to any degree offroad, more people adopting larger wheels become stuck from rim damage, rather than tyre damage. Replacing a tyre is much cheaper than a scrap rim, but a damaged rim damaging a tyre is far more expensive if they both have to be replaced.
