question about using 4 wheel drive?

people say using 4 wheel drive on a hard surface (ie road )wrecks the transmission my question is why??
surely this carnt be ,when fourtraks are used off road there not always in the slopps

The Fourtrak has NO center diff ( in the gearbox, as per Range Rover for example). transmission windup will occur if the wheels/tyres cannot relieve the built up stresses, especialy when turning, (as per Series Land Rovers for example). Feel how heavy and difficult the steering gets if you try to use 4WD on tarmac. Loose surfaces allow the front wheels to slip .

Maybe others could give a better explaination.

The lack of a 3rd diff is slightly disappointing, 4WD on road would be useful for towing...
