Return to a Fourtrak

Forum:

I have just bought myself a 1994 M plate TDX Independent after being without a Fourtrak for 10 years. This one has just done under 95,000.
It needs a new clutch as it slips under acceleration, I knew this when I bought it.
I have fitted a clutch before when I had my other Fourtraks.
I am going to get one from Milners.
Should I replace any other parts while the box is out?
Finally, where do I get a manual from? I can't see one for an F78 advertised on this site.

fly wheel bearing

replace this at the same time and the oils in the gearboxes.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

re your daihatsu

BEFORE YOU GO TO THE EXPENSE OF REPLACEMENT CLUTCH, HAVE YOU CHECKED TO SEE THERE IS A LITTLE "FREE PLAY" ON THE CLUTCH CABLE IN UNDER THE BONNET ON THE BULKHEAD, AJUSTING IS A 1 Wink MINUTE PROCESS TO PULL THE CLIP OUT AND RELAX THE CABLE BACK, WE ONCE HAD A SLIPPING CLUTCH AND THIS WAS ALL IT WAS?

REGARDS

Tried "adjusting" the clutch

Tried "adjusting" the clutch with the clip, its a bit better but it still slips.
So ordered a new clutch, bearing, crank seal and filters from Milners.
Tried Daihatsu direct as I had seen a post on here about discounted parts but their clutch was £300!!
Ordered a new front panel as mine has corroded through just under the grill/lights. £75 which i didn't think was too bad for a genuine panel.

Auto hubs and 4WD system

When I put my 94 Independant in either 4WD High or Low I can hear a regular intermittent whine like a wuuurgg, wuuurgg, wuuurg when driving in a straight line. It seems to be coming from the RH front of the car.
In 2WD its perfectly OK. The lights on the dash all light up correctly and the 4WD system seems to disengage OK when you reverse the vehicle.
Is this either the wheel bearing or do the auto hubs need to be cleaned and repacked with grease. Or is it something worse??
When I test drove the vehicle I tested the 4WD system in high and low and turned left to right with the steering and everything was fine. No knocks at all.
What oil do you need to fill the vehicle with? I have looked on the Castrol site and they are recomending Magnetec for the engine and Syntrax for the gearbox, axles etc.
I have spoken to a friend of mine who worked at a Daihatsu dealership and he has told me they changed the gearbox oil spec a couple of times due to some wear on the synchro rings.
