Scappage Scheme

Forum:

Hi/
We where recently looking around our local Daihatsu Garage when the salesman said why not trade in your fourtrak for a new Terios and save some money with the scrappage scheme.
NO WAY said i,What Terios could ever match my Fourtrak,She is one of the family,Has real caracter and certainly grows on you and would out tow most in here class,O.K she is heavy on fual, does not have all these modern gagets and gismos like permenent 4x4,Air conditioning,Cruise control,Electric seats e.t.c but who cares,i certainly dont, she is our "Old Girl" and will stay with us for quite a few more years yet thank you

Well said, it is basic and

Well said, it is basic and simple, thus having less to go wrong, lasts for many years with little more than basic maintenance, and very reliable.

What more do you need in this snow.

The scrapage scheme is

The scrapage scheme is terrible for Fourtraks, there are really not alot about now and even less now you can get £2,000 for one whatever the condition.....

Well said!

Fourtrak , a dying breed, down but not out !!!!!!

Hi all.

It has been noted, that use of the site by older Fourtrak and Sportrak members, has fallen since the scrappage scheme was introduced. Though with the link to Facebook there has been an increase in new members to all sections.

Addition-: Well said "assassin", so little to go wrong on these trucks, no fancy electronics. Just basic mechanics.

scrap.

Interestingly i have noticed the fourtrak used parts section on the ebay has grown, possibly due to more traks being scrapped.

Yup.........a '92 Fourtrak

Yup.........a '92 Fourtrak rear light from the bay has just saved me £70 against a new part from Daihatsu. Just needed a connector swap. The donor 'trak didnt look at all bad in the photo. Stated it was being scrapped as an MOT failure! Not complaining though.

As an aside, back to the post, how capable is the Terios?

True, unfortunately.

.... but not for a long time if I have anything to do with it.

I now have 3 of the beasts with potentially about 350,000 easy miles left, and maybe another 250,000 by grubbing around for bits.

I calculate that these should keep me going for another 30 years, by which time the biological machine I also rely on will be getting decidedly dodgy !

Keep them rolling

yes, even I have purchased another '92 model for spares, and have her stored in a poly tunnel. Mot failure on leaking front hub seal onto brake disk.

Terios / Fourtrak

Hi,
The Terios is no match for the fourtrak with its little 16.00cc engine,Try doing some serious off-roading or towing a large loaded trailer, just does not have the power and grunt,O.k for the wifes school run or keeping up with the road going 4x4 brigade that never goes off road or seldom know how to engage 4x4 even if needed, not much use for anythink else though.

Didnt expect the Terios to

Didnt expect the Terios to be a consummate performer in the mud. Just wondered if it would be capable of basic field / track off road work, i.e getting down the edge of fields to a shooting spot?

Scrappage scheme

I looked at the scrappage scheme when it was first introduced and decided our Fourtrak despite being seventeen years old was worth more to me than £2,000 against the grossly inflated cost of a new vehicle which would depreciate by more than £2,000 as soon as it was driven off the forecourt. The £2,000 available for a qualifying vehicle is in my opinion misleading as at the height of the credit crunch you could negotiate a keen price on a new vehicle and still can.Perhaps for a vehicle already on its way to the scrap yard the scrappage scheme might be an option some would consider.
Finally driving the Fourtrak yesterday in thick snow reassured me I had made the right decision.
