I think officially they are 55 litres, but I have managed to shoehorn almost 60 into mine, and that was right up the filler neck.

I think it depends on the exact model
I have a 1988 2.8 TD EL and it just about takes 50 litres...
60 litres
I've not managed to get over 50 litres into my J reg. The manual says the tank is 60 litres.
