Noise from front of engine when cold

Forum:

My duaghters Sportrack has a strange fault. When it is first started in the morning when it is cold, i.e. a frost, There is a loud knocking noise coming from the front of the engine around the water pump/alternater/fan. This does not increase with engine revs. As soon as the engine gets warm all is fine and the engine is as smoth as can be. If it is warm in the morning, above about 2 degrees there is no noise at all. For the life of me I can't find where it is comming from and it is pointless taking it to a garage or where we bought it from (still under warrenty for 6 weeks, as by the time we get it there the noise has gone .

Any one any idea's as I'm now stumpped !!!!

Thanks,

peter

If its still under warranty

If its still under warranty send it back to them! Even if you have to leave it there overnight, if it is something expensive you will be kicking yourself for not getting it done for free!

warrenty

Hi.

I would go with "stalin's" suggestion. Arange to leave it over night at the garage/seller, so they can do a cold start.

Noise from front end.

Well we found the problem. It was the water pump which failed on Sunday. Lucky that she was only a few yards from her boy friends house so no dammage done other that a siezed water pump which shed the belts and as soon as the alternator light came on she stopped and checked under the bonnet to see the belt off and steam comming from the pump shaft. Still all the water in the system.

The garage we bought it from basically don't want to know !!! A comment like, "Did it have a warrenty ??" and now they won't answer the phone and if they do they take a message and no one gets back to us. Next stop I think is to get it repaired and put the AA legal team on it.

Peter

Thanks,
Sportrack Xi-SE.

Warrenty

Hi.

Consider speaking to your local Trading Standards Office, if you are still in warrenty.
