What do you get, (MPG)

Forum:

Hi all.

Re the recent post about MPG using Fourtraks and UK/US gallons. I decided at the time to do a MPG test, which coincided with the snowy weather, but decided to go ahead.

Most morning the truck was started up and left at a fast idling RPM on the hand throttle at about 1200rpm, to defrost. 5 situations where the truck was left at hi idle to jump start other cars. Lots of Lo range use pulling cars and other soft roaders up inclines, quite a lot of "C" class road use 4Hi/4Lo, no gritting or snow clearance, collecting office staff from a central point and taking in to work ( out in the sticks), waiting with engine running/heater on full. So MPG is suffering.

After all this, the nitty gritty , 19.291459 Miles per Gallon (UK Gallons) with a '92 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX. Better than what I thought it would be, and thats using a 50/50 veg oil/diesel mix. No problems starting, though more smoke at start up than usual !!

I am running another MPG test to get a more realistic MPG under normal conditions.

( Note - On these cold mornings , the viscous fan locked in immediatly ! Unknw ! Unknw definatly a problem there)

So post your own MPG results, with truck details and driving conditions. And yes ,I know it depends on how a heavy right foot you have and all the other variables.

Am getting about 24mpg in my '94 Fourtrak 2.8TDL Indy. That is mainly rural A and B roads. I try to drive like Miss Daisy's chauffeur as much as possible!

Was getting slightly better in the summer, so presume the cold weather effects things.

Also, deffo get better MPG with Shell derv over Tesco derv.

33mpg

I reckon my J reg (1991?) F70 tdi gets about 33mpg around the Somerset lanes plus a 200 mile weekly motorway trip. That dropped to about 27 towing a horse trailer.

35mpg

About 35mpg (UK) on 100% diesel (not including defrosting startups!) but I do try and keep the gear changes below about 2000rpm and my truck is a non-turbo.

MPG

Hi all.

Just ran another MPG, this is using mainly "C", "B" with very little "A" road use, so not much 5th gear work, lots of short trips as well.

'92 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX - Average conditions - 22.62 MPG

just done new test

After just fitting a new winch and cradle which really increased front weight, and one day i ran out of fuel lol, thought on this basis ill do a test over 3-4 days or however long that amount of fuel lasted, worked out at approx 34 mpg, never going above 2000 rpm, as you dont really need to.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

MPG Fourtrak

Hi all.

'92 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX.

Posting two more MPG,s .

Local use , short trips and minor roads, virtualy no "A" road use.

23.82 MPG

Long Distance !!!. well for me !!. Bristol area to Dartmoor and return. Motorway and Dual Carrigeway and use of "A","B" and "C" and unclassified roads on the Moors, so a mixed bag of usage. Motorway and Dual Carrigeway driving at legal limit, !!!!????. At times the pedal was to the metal !!! . ((2up and Wheelchair).

27.95 MPG

Will be have to do this run again in a month or so , so will do a just, motorway and dual carrigeway check one way at 50/55 MPH, and try to run below 2200RPM where the Turbo kicks in and the same run with a no limits run, could be interesting !!!!!

Hi to all. Purchased my first Daihatsu recently, and it is my first 4wd vehicle. Filled tank up, and after 250 miles, re-filled to allow mpg calculation. Comes out at a shade over 32mpg. This is the Yaris sourced 1.3 twin cam vvti engine. Suppose the manual version would give a little more. How does this stack up with anyone else out there?

Got a local farmer with a Trak with over 500,000 miles on an original engine to give me his information. His trak spends lots of time working hard, and about 40% of its time in four wheel drive, he also has a similar Land Rover.

Results for the Fourtrak were 18.966MPG

Results for the Land Rover were 10.274MPG

This is for hard working farm vehicles.

Just calculated my dads for last saturday,

Pretty much all towing livestock (higher than truck roof)/deadstock box (lower than truck roof). Y plate TDL fourtrak, same engine since new, 320K+ miles (not sure exact) with second power steering pump (ZF74 pump) for external hydraulics.

17.63 MPG (2 decimal places)

Work vehicle, fair bit of lanes going from farm to farm, some main roads etc
