Forum:
I have a white circular piece of plastic about 3cm in dia. floating on top of my brake fluid. The cap has a black plastic bellows sort of thing attached to it. Was the white plastic disc at one time part of the cap assembly? Any clues gratefully accepted.
floating
mine is just floating on top of the brake fluid as well,i asumed it was ment to be like that,Not sure why though.Dont think its ment to be part of the cap.

Probably the ring that is
Probably the ring that is supposed to hold the black 'flote' part of the cap on. The bit that messures the fluid level. But if the black bit is staying in place I'd leave it alone.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
The white ring is a magnetic
The white ring is a magnetic float in the brake fluid reservour. As the level drops, so does the float. If it gets low enough, the magnet will grab metal contacts at the bottom of the reservour, completing the warning switch circuit. Refilling the fluid alone wont refloat the magnet, and turn off the warning light, you have to dislodge the float from the bottom. A screwdriver will do the trick.

This is how it is supposed to be, it is the float for the fluid level.

Thanks for the comments. We have had the truck for years and for some reason I had got it into my head that it hadn't always been detached. Many thanks for the reassurance.
