Forum:
Hello,
I have a f78 Independent Fourtrak 1997
When I bought it the temperature gauge worked / didn't work / waved around franticly!
This was soon fixed by jamming the plug back onto the temperature sender on the engine, everything then worked fine.
However I have now noticed at motorway speeds the temp rapidly drops to zero, re jamming the plug on makes no difference. The heater works fine, and none of the other gauges seem affected by the speed. Has anyone any ideas what is causing this? The speed that the temperature drops makes me think electrical problem rather than the water getting extra cool due to the extra airflow.
Temperature sensors work by a
Temperature sensors work by a varying resistance on the earth circuit so testing is easy.
When it drops to nought or cold on the temperature guage simply remove the wire and short to earth. The gauge should slowly climb to full temperature, if it dioes its a faulty sensor, if not its a wiring fault.
Thanks
Using your Tip, its a wiring fault. Re jammed plug on and taped it up works OK now although it still seems to run cooler at 75 than 50
It will run cooler as the
It will run cooler as the engine is receiving air at a much higher speed and volume, this cools it more and the thermostat stabilises.
