rad block

I forget your previous posts on this problem but have you got any mods infront of the rad/grill? that would do it, fan work ok? gunked water veins in engine block? temp gauge ok? head gasket? rad blocked? 50/50 mix of coolant? think id soon start thinking engine problem........

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

overheating

Hi ,when the engine is to full temp and thermostat opened, check the centre of the radiator by slightly touching.Be careful as it should be hot to the touch. If just tepid the rad is blocked down the centre which won't allow the fan to come in(thermal viscous). If its hot sounds like headgasket troubles.hope this helps Mick

I assume the coolant level has not dropped .....

The thermostat has a 'jiggle' which must be fitted uppermost in the engine block. The 'jiggle' allows trapped air to escape so the coolant contacts the wax spring, so the thermostat opens. Did you fit the thermostat the correct way up?

If 'yes' flush the radiator. Remove the drain plug and flush in each direction witha hose pipe. Also flush through the engine in both directions through the top/bottom hoses.

thanks

water levels are defo good
no spot light in front ive heard of that before.
and im 100% im not airlocking

i took it for a 10 mile drive and then let stand for 5 mins i then took cap off and it did not explode out, this is im told a sign that gasket is not damaged even though im not too bother as its cheaper for a gasket then a radiator.

ive had rad flush in for 2 days im going to drop tommrow take rad off and flush out all ways and the engine, and also clean out fins.
ill then try the radiator to see if that is even heated.

thanks for ideas i will try them all.

i took radiator of today and

i took radiator of today and all the fins were crumbling under slight finger pressure this has got to be the problem what do you think?

Motor Rads.

Take the radiator to motor-rads [telephone pages for number] or a radiator restorer. There is an excellent Motor Rads in Redditch, Worcestershire. They will soon tell you the diagnosis. If the rad is useless, have it re-cored. The result is as good as a new radiator. Much cheaper than a new radiator. Second hand rads are a waste of time ... mostly rusted or 'fixed' to sell.
