Changing plugs making engine run bad

Forum:

I have a 2005 terios 1.3 which I put new plugs defore its MOT. When started it didnt idle quiet right. At speed if there isn't a slight bit of acceleration then it kangaroo's along. The engine managment light flashed for about 5 seconds at 60mph. Put the old plugs back in which improved but the faults still seem to linger and noticed that the exhaust smoke is black powdery on blipping the throttle. Any ideas would be helpful as MOT on the 3rd Sept.

I wonder if you have knocked something out of place. Check all cables again, and condition of the plugs. What plugs are they? Should ideally be using NGK or Denso plugs. Anything else and your asking for trouble.

Is yours a MK2 2005 or one of the last Mk1's Unknw

If a MK2, are you sure you've pushed the coil packs down properly?
Give them a slight twist and push down firmly.
I assume you only removed the connector plugs and lifted the coil packs out.

Examine the plugs, the misfiring one should look sooty black and not brown. Once you know which cylinder it is, swap the coils and plugs around and see if the fault follows the pack or plug

Can you get your hands on any diagnostics kit that supports KWP2000 / ISO14230, that would point to whats wrong.
