You need to disconnect

You need to disconnect everything.

To get at the bellhousing bolts you need to drop the gearbox crossmember and support it on packing once it is lowered. Tilting the engine and transmission will allow you to get to the bellhousing bolts with a ratchet, long extensions, and a universal joint.

Use a 1/2" drive set as smaller drives are not powerful enough, these bolts are very tight.

I find it eisier to drop the

I find it eisier to drop the engine down onto the front axle (diff housing on Indipendent). As it's the engine your taking out, this is not a problem. Once all ancileries disconected, unbolt engine mounts, lift engine up so off mounts, then unbolt mounts from engine block. You can now lower the engine down several inches bollow where it normally sits. This will give enough space to get at those bolts. As Assassin says you can use 1/2" socket with lots of extention bars and probably a universal joint or wobble bar. But I quite orfften find a normal ring spanner will get on them once engine droped, with the added leverage of a secong spanner locked into the jaws of the open end of the 1st spanner to crack nuts off. After that I use a flexi handle ratchet to undo all the way.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
