hi,got any ideas?
got a 93 sportrak elxi injection, had it 4 years and very reliable.engine will start normaly but as it gets warmer it starts to get uneven and ANY throttle will kill the engine and won't re start 'till cold.
i suspect a sensor but where is it?
the rev.
engine shut down
Read the fault code from the ECU and that will identify where the problem is - this is a simple process for which you do not need special tools. Assuming that the car is a fuel injected model, the problem is most likely associated with the coolant temperature sensor output, which sends engine temperature information to the ECU, allowing it to lean out the mixture as the engine warms up. This sensor is located at the rear of the engine, beneath the distributor. If you need info about how to read the fault code, send me your email address and I will email you the relevant section of the Sportrak service manual. If your vehicle is a carburettor model, check the automatic choke.

Engine shut down
I have exactly similar problem with my applause after rebuilding the cylinderhead. (exhaust valve was leaking)
If anyone have instructions how to read ecu fault codes please reply.

engine shut down,part 2...
thanks for info, found the sensor and put in a new one with much
cursing(not a bad engine to get at-exept for this temp sensor!)
as always starts and runs great, now runs ok when it gets warm
BUT if you blip the throttle from tickover i get approx .25 sec of no power (as if it floods/starves)and a hiss of what sounds like air
from the inlet manifold area-i can't find any holes and i can't
remember if it's supposed to make that sound.
as of tus nite i thought i had it cracked-then i tried to restart it
after turning off normally,no go.won't go 'till cold!(sod it).
the damm thing runs great when cold-it's go to be something daft?
