Forum:
Hi there, I have been reading these pages for the last 8 months, ever since i aqquired my lovely Sporty, and you lot are really entertaining and very informative. Now, I really need some help.....I have recently had a complete water pump failure and i am in the process of trying to remove it, I have, so far, removed the rad, and the fan, and I also believe that I have removed all the necessary nuts and bolts, however....I CANNOT get the water pump off!!!
Am i missing some hidden bolt? do i really have to remove the timing belt?
Please guys and gals, I am getting desperate!!!
Thanks, Love ya
Johnny
you have to remove the timing
you have to remove the timing cover, there is one bolt and a stud behind the timing belt cover and tenstioner. I managed it without removing the timing belt, but if you have stripped it this far renewing the belt would be a good idea as you have done 99% of the work. You can slightly bend the bracket out of the way to access the bolt behind the tensioner, where my finger is pointing:-
You can see the stud behind the belt here above the water pump hole:-

Thanks
Hi mowerman, thank you so much for your extremely helpful and quick response. Looks like i will have to dig deeper than i wanted too, thanks for pointing out the "hidden" nuts and bolts though, its really appreciated.
The timing belt was changed only 10,000 mile ago and looks in very good nick to me, so i will leave that as done....Onward and upward....many thanks..
Johnny
you are welcome mate, you are
you are welcome mate, you are nearly there anyway the timing cover is easy to get off, its in two halves, top and bottom.
Top cover off:-
You will have to drop the bottom pulley off to get the lower cover off- you can do this by holding the main crank bolt and undoing the 4 x 10mm bolts round inside it:-
I did it like this:-
Once the pulley is off the bottom cover can be accessed and removed:-
Have fun!
cheers
