Forum:
Hi I have a daihatsu Fieldman 1998 2.8TD which until recently has been a great starter and runner, mainly mornings it has now started up fine but engine dies as soon as you pull away, all dash board lights come on intermittently while this is happening, go back to her a few hours later and she will run fine with no probs, have looked for obvious loose connections but cant find anything. This has only started happening since car went in for MOT, and they adjusted the head lamps. Also does anyone know where the immobilizer is on this car as would like to disable it due to the main key broken off.
Hope someone can help
Cheers

there is only one thing that
there is only one thing that makes these engines cut out...and thats fuel, if you have a power issue to the fuel stop solonoid then it will die, have u checked all obvious service areas i.e filters...? make sure there is enough fuel to the pump etc. check electric wires for fuel system, as for immobiiser it will be a little box somewhere, but not knowing your vehicle i dont know if its an aftermarket one etc
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

update on problem
Hi
Thought i would do an update on this problem, the engine cutting out has stopped but I'm still getting a disco of lights when I'm driving her, also the radio is cutting out,I have taken the radio out hoping it was that that was causing this but its still doing it, it is mainly doing it in the early morning. I have noticed a excessive clicking noise coming from a solenoid (i think) have a pic of it but not sure what it is or how to up load it on here, I have checked all connections but cant find anything, also I checked the output of battery and if anything is on ie fan, lights then the reading goes upto 15.10 not sure if that has anything to do with it.
any help gratefully received
Cheers

Bad earthing?
I think you should check the main earth connections: battery to body and engine to body, and any others (gearbox to body?) - need to make sure the joints are good with no corrosion.

Hi thanks for your reply Just
Hi thanks for your reply
Just found out the solenoid that is clicking is a glow plug relay would that part cause these problems, going to check the earthing again later this afternoon cant see any corrosion but will double check.
Many thanks

Clicking relay
Hi Taff,
The glow plug relay is controlled from a simple "ECU" mounted in the drivers footwell - this ECU is simply a timer with current measurement thru 3 and not 4 glow plugs and coolant temperature detection. This system is described in the service manual.
The glow plug ECU does not control the fuel cutoff solenoid.
With all your faults (random dashboard lights etc) I would definitly think there is an earthing issue somewhere - it maybe that a wire / earth strap has broken and engine vibration causes it to make / break contact - this is going to be very difficult to find!
