Forum:
hey guys,
i have just finished our gearbox on our fourtrak and all was well until i went underneath today and...uh oh.... we still have a drip coming from the prop shaft (rear) and the seal between the transfer and the gearbox?
we were really thorough about making the seal perfect,
cleaning up the two faces etc and applying a good amount of gasket sealent but STILL seem to have a flaming leak!
any suggestions? im really starting to bang my head on a wall now but i am in this for the ride now so i shant give up on the old gal yet just need some kind of reassurance that prehaps this is not a one off?? lol
steve

oh
right, heres da fing......i thought you had/were getting some gasket paper to make the gasket? heres what you can doo- split the transfer box off just using a handy trolley jack then put one in...did you clean both the mating faces thoroughly? slight bit of old gasket = oil leak, as for the clunk - have you set the clutch cable correctly? before fitting gearbox did you check the clutch fork mechanism before fitting? are the prop shafts fitted back right? is it a different transfer box you have too? is the return spring there on the clutch fork lever? although fitting a gearbox is straightforward- you doo have to check things.

ahhh
yes the return spring was there and we checked that it worked thoroughly, propshafts fitted back correctly may be the issue so tell me more about this please? the two faces we were really strict in how we cleaned them smooth as a babys but! the same transfer box on that came off as i recall we could not fit the other one due to it being esier to fit this one. the main issue is it being stuck in 4wd.... canny understand that one! have a prop shaft seal or bearing or somthing gone though as oil is dribbling out.... i thought we had it sussed but hey ho!
